Darik’s Boot and Nuke (DBAN) is a tool for completely erasing a computer hard drive. Wiping a hard drive is very important if you are selling a computer, because deleting things does not make them disappear. Wiping a drive is also the last option when the drive is infected with viruses or spyware.
I just used this tool last night to prepare for a fresh installation of Windows XP Pro and Ubuntu 6.06. It took over 3 hours on an 80GB drive!
